How to Trade

You can buy and sell NZFOX products through any accredited NZX Futures Advisor who is employed by an NZX Futures and Options Firm, an NZX Futures and Options IB or directly through an SFE Full Participant who has access to the SFE's trading, clearing and settlement infrastructure. Your advisor will execute your order on SFE's SYCOM trading system.

Preparing to trade

Choose an NZX Futures and Options Advisor who is employed by an NZX Futures and Options Firm or NZX Futures and Options IB

All NZX Futures and Options Participants regulated by NZX must pass qualifying examinations before they can give advice, handle client instructions and place orders in futures and options contracts for New Zealand clients. Follow this link for a full list of accredited NZX Futures and Options Partcipants.

Set up an account, sign a Risk Disclosure and Acknowledgement Form and enter a client agreement

Once you have found and contacted an NZX Futures and Options Advisor who meets your needs, they must ask you for:

  • Information necessary to open an account
  • A signed Risk Disclosure and Acknowledgement Form (see Appendix 9 of the NZX Futures & Options Rules) indicating that you understand the risks involved in futures and options trading
  • A signed Client Agreement (see Appendix 10 of the NZX Futures & Options Rules) formalising the relationship between you and the NZX Futures and Options Participant.

Make a minimum deposit with the NZX Futures and Options Participant

You must deposit a minimum amount of cash or securities stipulated by your NZX Futures and Options Advisor.

The NZX Futures and Options Participant will allow you to start trading.

Once you have met any other requirements stipulated by the NZX Futures and Options Participant you are ready to start trading futures and options contracts.
